Using Sound Buttons Responsibly: Timing and Context
Sound buttons are jokes with volume. This is about timing, consent in a room, and not treating every clip like it is cleared for every platform.
A sound button is a joke you can make too loud. Sound Buttons Max makes playback easy. The part that still requires judgment is when, where, and how you reuse the file. This is not a legal memo. It is a field guide so the library stays fun for the people around you.
Timing is the whole joke
The same clip is hilarious on a cut and rude over someone talking. Wait for the gap. In a call, look at the waveform of the conversation even if you cannot see one: breath, laugh, pause, then tap. If you cannot hear the pause, you are not listening.
The room did not press play
Speakers in a shared space turn your bit into their soundtrack. Headphones for hunting. Speakers only when the room is in on it. Prank categories exist for a reason, and that reason is not “surprise the whole cafe.”
Publishing is not the same as playing
Playing a clip on this site is a preview. Uploading an MP3 into a monetized video, a store listing, or an ad is a different act. Platform rules and copyright still apply to what you publish. If a clip is clearly someone else’s performance, treat it like any other third-party audio: know the rules of the place you are posting.
Kids and surprise screams
Sudden alarms and screams are funny to some adults and upsetting to others. Do not aim them at people who cannot leave the room. That includes classrooms, offices, and anyone who asked you to stop.
